Designer of the Month

Tunes Meness was not overly impressed with the concept of Second Life when he first saw a documentary about it, but he neglected to comprehend its pulling power. After coming across it a year or so later on the web, he couldn’t help himself, he just had to come and see what it was all about for himself, no prizes but guess what? He got hooked!! This was back in 2006.
Out in the real world the human behind Tunes is an architect who is based in Rotterdam.
He says he loves the possibilities to create and shape your own surroundings in this virtual world of ours.
So what is it that Tunes creates?
Well what doesn’t he create is more like the question to be asked. He didn’t like what he saw when he arrived and decided to build his own house and furniture and also redid some of the landscaping in order to make his land look less harsh and more peaceful.
He says he introduced a bit of Zen into the computer realm. People liked the things he had made and asked if they could buy them and that is how his first small store came about.
Tunes had a SL girlfriend back then and they started making things together. She came up with the name 2Xtreme and made the logo. Unfortunately she left SL in 2007 but he stayed and kept the name and logo expanding it to what we now know as :: 2Xtreme ::

Asked what set his furniture designs apart from the rest, Tunes comments “In my furniture I think my minimalistic approach in appearance and textures makes my furniture recognizable. Also the choice of furniture I make most of which is based on or are replicas of the furniture of the great designers of the 20th century that I admire so much, like Charles and ray Eames and Le Corbusier."
"What’s more:: 2Xtreme :: is set apart from other furniture shops because the furniture is only a small part of the whole collection. I sort of create a whole environment, consisting of houses, furniture, beaches, rocks, plants, birds, fish, paintings and more, much more.”
Tunes recently completely redid most of his furniture line based on the designs of Charles and Ray Eames, Le Corbusier, Marcel Breuer and Mart Stam. It is fully sculpted with loads of detail and ‘xtremely’ low on prims.

In addition to his first prefab which is a patio-beach house, he has recently finished a New York Style skybox. The prefabs are unfurnished, but people that purchase them receive a 30-50% discount on the furniture they purchase from :: 2Xtreme :: to furnish their home.
He is very proud of the animals he has created, from flying blue and gold Macaws, to swirling Hummingbirds, to man eating sharks and a vicious alligator. Most of all it is his free swimming dolphins which are partly flexible and jump out of the water randomly making the most beautiful flips and twists as they jump that he most loves.
As for the future, :: 2Xtreme :: will be opening a new main store In close cooperation with Mimi Juneau of Mimi's choice, the new main store will be @ Deep House Island and will open on the 16th of June! You are most welcome to pop along and pick up the great opening gifts that will undoubtedly cheer up your garden! It’s a set of 12 different birds (see Picture) all with their own real life sound that can be scattered around your land and gardens. All the birds can be found "somewhere" in the new store and are free to collect that weekend!
